Local guide

What the area is actually like

Baja del Mar sits south of the Rosarito hotel strip: mostly year-round residents, a long open beach, and none of the boardwalk noise. Most people who ask about it are really asking two things — is it safe to walk, and can you stay there for a few nights without buying property. Short answers: yes, and yes, a few minutes up the road.

01

A beach you get to yourself

The shoreline here runs wide and flat at low tide, good for walking a couple of miles without crossing more than a handful of people. No jet skis, no vendors, no music. Sunsets face straight west over open water.

02

Whale season, December to April

Gray whales pass along this stretch on their way to the Guerrero Negro lagoons. From a terrace on the water you see spouts on most clear mornings between December and April, usually within the first mile of coast.

03

Eight minutes from everything

Downtown Rosarito, the boardwalk, the lobster houses of Puerto Nuevo half an hour south — all close enough to drive after breakfast and be back before dark. The quiet is a choice, not an isolation.

04

Staying a few nights, not a decade

Baja del Mar itself is residential, so nightly stays happen up the coast in the beachfront condo buildings near the center. That is where Rosarito Inn comes in: same ocean, same sunsets, with a front desk and no HOA.

Where exactly is Baja del Mar?

On the coast just south of Playas de Rosarito, about eight minutes from the downtown boulevard, off the free Tijuana–Ensenada road.

Can I rent in Baja del Mar for a weekend?

It is a residential community, so short stays are limited. Most visitors book a beachfront condo near downtown instead — Rosarito Inn rents fully furnished units by the night, ten minutes away.

Do I need a passport?
